Fluid Release and Alignment
This Sunday we will begin dancing from a place of release, finding alignment through gentle and fluid floor-work and hands-on. We will investigate orienting to gravity and how to support the weight of the skull. As we develop an acute proprioceptive awareness we will move on to more playful partner-work, including push and pull patterns and spinal sensibilities, aligning the head and tail.
Rosalind is a Dance Artist and Somatic Movement Practitioner. She creates immersive installations and performances for gallery and site-specific environments. She has been passionate about Contact Improvisation since she was a student of Fine Art and Choreography at Dartington in 2009 and now teaches regularly in the UK and at festivals in Europe. Besides Contact Improvisation her practice is also informed by Body-Mind Centering, Authentic Movement and Skinner Release Technique. She holds a Masters degree in Dance, Creative Practice and is also a Yoga Teacher and Shaw method, swimming teacher; a release based approach, combining the Alexander Technique.
A jam is an informal gathering of dancers. There is no teacher, but space and time to develop skills and confidence. You are free to dance, rest, or sit and watch, as you wish. The jam provides an opportunity to explore and integrate techniques you have learned, and to find your own routes into dancing.
At some jams a teacher will facilitate a score to follow such as a focused (silent) jam, the Underscore (developed by Nancy Stark-Smith), or a blindfold (or eyes-closed) jam, this will normally be advertised via our regular mailout – so sign-up if you want advance notice.
- Live musicians will improvise with the dancing at many of the jams.
- For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or contact the individual teachers.
