y time for the jam. Dancers can come just for the class\, £5\, or stay fo
r the jam\, £8.\n\nFor more information feel free to contact the teacher
/facilitator or info@contactdance.co.uk. We send out regular emails of cl
ass descriptions\, to get these\, please sign-up to our mailing list.\nC
lass Description\nHere you are a bit of info about the theme:\n\n\nMa is a
Japanese word which can be roughly translated as "gap"\, "space"\, "pause
" or "the space between two structural parts." The spatial concept is expe
rienced progressively through intervals of spatial designation. In Japanes
e\, ma\, the word for space\, suggests interval. It is best described as a
consciousness of place\, not in the sense of an enclosed three-dimensiona
l entity\, but rather the simultaneous awareness of form and non-form deri
ving from an intensification of vision.\nMa is not something that is creat
ed by compositional elements\; it is the thing that takes place in the ima
gination of the human who experiences these elements. Therefore ma can be
defined as experiential place understood with emphasis on interval.(from W
ikipedia)\n'This warm up class will focus on the spatial relationships and
designs that we create as we move in and out of contact.\nWe will start o
ur exploration\, rather than thinking straight away about how to make cont
act\, by observing the spaces in between our bodies\, continuing our movem
ent exploration from this point of view gradually moving into contact.'\nH
ope to see you there!\n\n\nThe Jam\nA jam is an informal gathering of danc
ers. There is no teacher\, but space and time to develop skills and confid
ence. You are free to dance\, rest\, or sit and watch\, as you wish. The j
am provides an opportunity to explore and integrate techniques you have le
arned\, and to find your own routes into dancing.\n\nAt some jams a teache
r will facilitate a score to follow such as a focused (silent) jam\, the U
nderscore (developed by Nancy Stark-Smith)\, or a blindfold (or eyes-close
 d) jam\, this will normally be advertised via our regular mailout – so
sign-up if you want advance notice.\n\n	Live musicians will improvise w
ith the dancing at many of the jams.\n	For more information\, please email
info@contactdance.co.uk or contact the individual teachers.\n
