SUMMARY:Contact Improvisation and Floorwork Fundamentals Workshop with Lewi
 s Wilkins - St Werburghs Primary School - 6 Dec 26 10:00
DESCRIPTION:\n\nContact Improvisation and Floorwork Fundamentals Workshop w
 ith Lewis Wilkins\n\nDoors open 10:00am:\n\nMorning Session : 10:30 to 1pm
 \n\nAfternoon Session: 2pm to 4.30pm\n\nAt 5:30pm the regular Bristol CI j
am will take place in the same space followed by a pot luck food share. T
he evening jam is FREE for anyone attending this workshop\n\nThis CI and
technique workshop centres on foundational approaches to cultivating aware
ness\, efficiency\, and competence in dancing that takes us into and out o
f the floor. We will consider how building a modest repertoire of solo flo
orwork skills can expand our creative choices and reduce the likelihood of
injury when dancing in contact—particularly through learning to absorb
and redirect forces by organising the body to fall\, roll\, and slide.\n\n
The day will include time dedicated to combining a small number of floorwo
rk maneuvers into a short sequence. This work will be facilitated in small
groups\, with an emphasis on getting creative with momentum and sequencin
g\, rather than on learning choreography.\n\nThe structure of the practice
will move fluidly between solo\, contact\, set patterns\, guided improvis
ations\, and scores\n\nThis workshop is best suited to those with some exi
sting experience in contact improvisation and/or contemporary dance floor
work\n\n\n\n About Lewis: Born and raised in Dartington\, Lewis complete
d his professional training at London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS) fro

hearsal director with a range of choreographers and companies. His credits
include Jean Abreu\, Richard Alston\, Riccardo Buscarini\, Bregenzer Fest
 spiele\, Tom Dale\, Stéphanie Dufresne\, the National Theatre\, Matthew B
ourne’s New Adventures\, Joel O’Donoghue\, the Royal Opera House\, Sco
 ttish Dance Theatre\, Lea Tirabasso\, and TrashDollys.\n\nTeaching since 2
 014\, Lewis specialises in contact\, ensemble\, and solo improvisation\, a
s well as in floorwork and soft acrobatic techniques. In 2022\, he complet
