SUMMARY:Contact Improvisation Class and Jam - DMAC\, (4th Floor) Hamilton H
 ouse - 3 Nov 19 18:00
DESCRIPTION:Contact Improvisation is based on the physical exploration of h
ow the body moves through its own intelligence and how two or more bodies
in contact with each other can move together. A dance that fine tunes your
senses and wakes up your ability to listen and respond to what is happeni
ng in the moment. Sometimes wild and athletic\, sometimes quiet and medita
tive\, and all levels in between. It is a form open to all bodies and inqu
iring minds.\n\nThe class will be led from 6 - 7.30pm leading into open ja
 m from 7.30pm - 8.15pm.\nClass Description\n\nWe are going to explore deep
er the themes and aspects of Zosia’s material.\n\n\n\nPulsation is the b
asic\, the basis and the beginning. We pulsate on many levels\, expansion
and contraction creates life at a cellular level\, maintains life through
breathe and facilitates movement into the world through muscular action an
d rhythmic vibration. Can we also pulsate our attention so that we can be
both with ourselves and with others- relating to space\, contact\, communi
cation or performance without losing inward connection?\n\nThrough imagery
\, imagination and contact with others\, we aim to find fluidity and possi
bility in our dancing whilst paying attention to our own needs and boundar
ies. There are invitations to be slow and soft as well as invitations to e
mbrace effort and dynamism.\n\nEvery body is a dancing body\nBiography\nZo
sia Jo is a dance artist\, writer and maker. Her work is rooted in a desir
e for connectivity and communication through movement\, improvisation and
performance. Zosia’s choreographic practice focuses on feminist themes\,
use of voice and spoken word\, connecting to communities and challenging
traditional theatrical hierarchies. She has made and shown work in London\
, Glasgow\, Edinburgh\, Brighton\, Cairo (Egypt) and across Wales. Origina
lly trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance\, Zosia also holds ce

e/Trinity Laban. She now lives in Cardiff and is a guest lecturer at Unive
rsity of Wales Trinity Saint David\, improvisation and choreography teache
r at Rubicon Dance\, artist in residence at Cardiff MADE\, and Programming
Coordinator at Groundwork Pro. Zosia’s Pembrokeshire based company\, Jo
on Dance\, was founded in 2008 with Torch Theatre and combines inclusive c
ommunity dance with professional performance practice.\n\n\n\nThe last Sun
day of each month will be an open jam from 6 - 8:15pm with a live musician
.\n\nThese Sunday sessions are run and taught by a community of contact da
ncers. Classes are open to all levels and generally led by a different tea
cher each week.\n\nParticipants are responsible for their own safety and w
ellbeing in the jam. Take care to be alert and sensitive to yourself and o
