 n\nIn this weekend intensive we will ask questions with our dancing about 
 the quality of softness.\n\nWhat does it mean to be soft in a CI dance and
  what does it achieve?\nWhy did Steve Paxton say "tension masks sensation
 ” ?\nDo I know how much muscle tone I use to dance?\nWhen could I use le
 ss force or tone?\nDo I copy my partners tone or force?\nAre there situati
 ons in which being soft is wrong?\n\nThis workshop will explore these ques
 tions through carefully framed improvisational tasks (focused dances) foll
 owed by discussion and feedback.\n\nThoughtful dances and embodied convers
 ations will feedback into more conscious dances.\n\nThis workshop is for a
 ny dancer who is looking for more awareness and enjoyment from Contact Imp
 rovisation.\n\nRick's Biography\;\n'My dancing began socially as a teenage
 r and the first technical form to channel my enthusiasm was Contact Improv
 isation. After some modern dance training I performed through the 90's for
  British contemporary dance companies.\nI maintain an improvisational perf
 ormance practice and have collaborated with many dancers\, actors\, musici
 ans and designers to create improvised performance.\nAs a choreographer\, 
 I have made work for many contexts\, including major Opera houses\, small 
 theatres\, art galleries\, touring dance companies and warehouse parties.\
 nI started teaching Contact Improvisation in 1996 and gradually expanded t
 he scope of my pedagogy to include performance improvisation\, solo dancin
 g\, ensemble composition and voice/movement techniques.\nFor 20 years I wa
 s a member of staff at London Contemporary Dance School where I taught Com
 position and Improvisation. I have been a guest teacher in many institutio
 ns and festivals such as CNDC Anger (France)\, National Taiwan University 
 of Arts\, Tanzfabrik Berlin\, Freiburg Festival\, APA Hong Kong and The Ro

 \n1000-1030 arrivals\n1030-1330 first part of class\n1330-1500 lunch (not 
 provided)\n1500-1800 second part of class\n\nDoors open at 10.00am for a 1
 0.30am start\, please arrive on time.\n\nPlease wear comfortable clothes t
 o move in.\n\nPlease bring a water bottle and food - some refreshments wil
 l be provided. There will be a 90m lunch break should you wish to go to to
 wn for food. There is a fully equipped kitchen for heating your own packed
  lunch.\n\nYou may wish to bring warm layers\, a yoga mat\, some cusions o
 r something soft to lie on should you wish to take some time for some solo
  improvisation/rest.\n\nA notepad and pen is also worth bringing.\n\nWe ha
