We are really excited to welcome guest teacher Dylan Elmore.

Dylan is a London based independent dance artist.

He has danced with Batsheva Dance Company (Israel), Ballet Gulbenkian (Portugal), L’Anonima Imperial and Rami Levi (Spain), Daniel Larrieu (France), Tanzforum (Germany) and Galili Dance (Holland).

As a freelance artist he has collaborated with and danced for many choreographers both in the United Kingdom and internationally.

He is passionately curious about the body in motion. As well as contact improvisation, his regular movement practices include sport climbing, yoga, and Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis (of which he is a Master Teacher).

He continues to delve deeper, bringing his lifelong movement enquiry and evolving personal practice to his class.

‘Out of and into the ground’
How do we move effortlessly from the floor to upright, from moving on our own through space into contact with another?
When our relationship to gravity is clear we are freed up to move with ease and lightness.
We will begin on the floor, yielding to the ground, from there finding our way to uprightness with freedom and buoyancy. We can then translate this into partnering.
Are we able to remain playful and curious in our explorations?
When we are in the moment can we allow ourselves to be surprised?

The Jam

A jam is an informal gathering of dancers. There is no teacher, but space and time to develop skills and confidence. You are free to dance, rest, or sit and watch, as you wish. The jam provides an opportunity to explore and integrate techniques you have learned, and to find your own routes into dancing.

At some jams a teacher will facilitate a score to follow such as a focused (silent) jam, the Underscore (developed by Nancy Stark-Smith), or a blindfold (or eyes-closed) jam, this will normally be advertised via our regular mailout – so sign-up if you want advance notice.

  • Live musicians will improvise with the dancing at many of the jams.
  • For more information, please email info@contactdance.co.uk or contact the individual teachers.
