This Seven week program is an opportunity to delve into the practice of contact improvisation. Beginning with exploring the basic movement principles of Contact Improvisation:
•Softening into and moving with the floor.
•dancing into and out of contact.
•Exploration of touch.
•Giving and receiving weight.
•Developing and sensing a good fluid alignment.
•Listening too and actioning our impulses.
We will also develop the less seen skills of contact improvisation:
•Awakening our senses and reflexes to be able to respond to space and each moment.
•Developing a bodily felt sense, and our ability to listen and respond too ourselves, our partner and the dance environment around us.
Over the weeks the dance will evolve and expand. We’ll explore specific pathways of movement to clarify the how involved in dancing with a partner. We will dance into and out of the floor, explorations into falling and flying.
These classes are open for those who are just beginning there journey with contact and for more experienced dancers who wish too deepen their practice finding subtleties in touch, direction and presence. It is ideal to attend the whole course, as there will be a progression of learning. However, drop-in is also welcome.
