The informed Bodymind: Beyond dance/The invisible CI skills
This dance form invites us to have a self-sense that extends spatially to include our partners and our environment. Its skills ask for physical/mental states beyond our normative modes and modalities. And, it stretches our understanding of physicality and perception. The aim of this class is to increase our ability to act responsively through developing new physical and perceptual skills that enhance our peripheral intelligence. By discovering new forms of awareness we will learn to dance safely in a state that gives us an ability to read each ecological moment spatially and energetically. With the dance as our teacher, we will come to able to trust ourselves to meet each moment successfully whether we are falling or flying.

Nita

Bio
A pioneering choreographer, performer, and theorist in the field of ensemble improvisational dance and Contact Improvisation, Nita Little is invited to work with dancers on five continents. A (2014) PhD in Performance Studies from the University of California, Davis, Little participated in the emergence and development of Contact Improvisation in 1972 with Steve Paxton and Nancy Stark Smith. She has been exploring the embodied mind in the physics of motion, relational and creative action, and the performance of presence ever since. As a dance researcher she develops Research Laboratories devoted to the study of relational potentials through ensemble dance explorations in which the tactility of attention is an essential investigation.

Nita works with dancers and performers in numerous mediums and including stage, site-specific investigations and film. She tours on a regular basis making work, performing, and teaching technical and creative skills for companies, festivals and schools worldwide. Nita is a physical philosopher who has developed a movement pedagogy oriented around creative actions of the bodymind in dance. In 2016/17 you will find her choreographing and teaching in NYC, Europe, and South America.
