In this course I want to look at some of the different spirals we can find in the body. Starting with small details, body work or somatic movement, circling and expanding out into connections within the body.. through whole body systems and out into the space.

Open to all levels, this course would serve as a good grounding in various contact Improvisation Techniques. Should also provide some development and progression for those with some experience.

There is no need to come to all the classes, But I will build on themes so there will be an advantage in doing so.

I would like to work with 4 specific system in this course: Bones, Organs, Embryology and Fascia. Throughout the course we will be looking at how we can use these spirals we find in our body to enhance our dance both in and out of contact.

Inspiration

“The koru (Māori for “loop”) is a spiral shape based on the shape of a new unfurling silver fern frond and symbolizing new life, growth, strength and peace. It is an integral symbol in Māori art, carving and tattoos. The circular shape of the koru helps to convey the idea of perpetual movement while the inner coil suggests a return to the point of origin.”
