This is a special format following Nancy Stark-Smith’s Underscore.

Alistair & Saskia will take you through the journey at the start, so please arrive promptly to start at 5.30pm. We will begin with a 30-40 minute introduction to the score. Participation is required for the full 3 hours 5.30pm-8.30pm. Doors will close at 5.45pm.
The Underscore is a long jamming contact improvisation score that Nancy Stark Smith has been developing since 1990. “It is a score that guides dancers through a series of “changing states”, from solo deepening/releasing and sensitizing to gravity and support; through group circulation and interaction, contact improvisation engagements, opening out to full group improvisation with compositional awareness, and back to rest and reflections.”Nancy Stark Smith, Caught Falling
Special seed for the evening: music & dance, musician and dancer, the suggestion being that we look at the “connections listed in the underscore (for example attraction, coincidence, contrast and influence) to observe our relationship between what we hear and how we move.”
