Class Description

Dancing From The Inner Body

In this class we will drop our attention into our inner body. Softening listening and following impulse’s from within, allowing movement to initially be small and changeable. Finding movement that emerges from the navel center and later the heart centre. How do these center’s create support and connection in moving out into expression, fullness and relationship with our environment. This class will take you from the horizontal to the vertical and everything in between,

About Jamus

I am interested in my own bodies intelligence, my sense of my body is that it is it’s own creature not just a machine driven by my head. I have become interested in recent years with the instinctive gut brain and the knowing of the heart to navigate in this world of ours. I offer classes where movers can turn to the bodies knowing and there movement can unfold from here. It creates a beautiful grounded and earthy quality to contact improvisation.

I dance with Touch Down Dance, run course in embodiment with my partner Lee and teach contact improvisation in warm water.

The Jam

A jam is an informal gathering of dancers. There is no teacher, but space and time to develop skills and confidence. You are free to dance, rest, or sit and watch, as you wish. The jam provides an opportunity to explore and integrate techniques you have learned, and to find your own routes into dancing.

At some jams a teacher will facilitate a score to follow such as a focused (silent) jam, the Underscore (developed by Nancy Stark-Smith), or a blindfold (or eyes-closed) jam, this will normally be advertised via our regular mailout – so sign-up if you want advance notice.

  • Live musicians will improvise with the dancing at many of the jams.
  • For more information, please email or contact the individual teachers.
