Gravity and Sensation Are Our Teachers (quote – Daniel Lepkoff)
A practice of ‘knowing’ and ‘not knowing’
We can know through our tactile and bodily senses, we can know a sense of gravity falling and rising, we can practice knowing when the meeting touch of another human is welcoming, supportive, playful, tentative…
The ‘knowing’ might be a map to find courage and joy to dance together with a ‘not knowing’ – something that surely resonates with our current times of uncertainty.
This class involves consensual physical touch which is optional and free to explore in your individual interpretation. I make sure that communication and choice is always present for every dancer to opt in or out.
Venue: Space 238 (238 Stapleton Road, Easton, BS5 0NT)
Space 238 has a cafe with hot drinks, smoothies, juices and food with vegan options.
About Jan-Ming:
I create and facilitate interactive experiences through dance, music, and somatic education, focusing on empathy and communication in a world of social and cultural differences. My work is situated in the spaces in-between things, in the movements of transition and translation between different known worlds.
I have been dancing contact improvisation for over 15 years and am passionate about the exquisitely powerful and completely ordinary practice that it can be to collectively bring us into a dancing conversation together, respecting our differences through curiosity, courage and care.
